Away From Home

"This area is owned by the Native Americans and the only way to get there is on a guided tour given by them. When you drive up, it looks like a big rock wall with a crack in the middle. When you walk through the crack it is an amazing, almost spiritual experience as they lead you along the ‘magically’ formed walls and tell of their folk stories on how the formations have different meanings. If you are lucky enough to be there midday, when the sun is shining, you will see these shafts of light coming through the cracks in the ceilings. The hardest part of photographing this was the many people inside the canyon, all like me, trying to take pictures of this awesome place and not be in each other’s way."

This ship was used in World War II. The movie “Under Siege.” starring Steven Segal was filmed aboard the ship. It is open for tours.

This photo was taken on Seven Mile Beach, just north of Negril, Jamaica. We were there for our daughter’s wedding.

This picture was taken on Bannister Island off the coast of Belize, one of the ports our ship stopped at. The water was so clear you could see small fish swimming around the docks, and my wife and I spent part of our time collecting unique seashells that had washed up on shore. We went there the first week in February for our honeymoon, and as the two empty lounge chairs suggest, we cannot wait to go back.

I took this picture while snorkeling on the reef a half-mile off the coast of Long Bay in Negril, Jamaica.

While hiking to the bottom of the canyon, we encountered a raven that allowed me to get close to it with a wide-angle lens.

The photo was taken on the beach at Barcelo Tropical Resort. We went for our 40th anniversary.
